The Art Of Creating Your Own Rituals of Healing

“Rituals are the formulas by which harmony is restored” – Terry Tempest Williams

Ritual is an integral part of human culture. It is a set of fixed activities that connects us deeply to ourselves and provides a sense of stability and continuity in our lives.

Why are rituals important? Rituals give us a sense of control that influences motivation. They provide direction to our lives and help us focus, deal with anxiety, and feel more confident during turbulent times when minds, bodies, and souls are shattered.

“We are what we repeatedly do!”

Rituals add joy and meaning to our life. In this chaotic world that we live in, developing a ritual can help us feel more in control of our lives and reduce our stress levels.

The most significant feature of rituals is that they not just mark time but also create time. Vilasa immensely believes in the power of rituals, boosting monotonous activities into meaningful and cautious moments that help us stay disciplined and connected to ourselves. It embraces slow living that offers long-term benefits and helps in choosing the right path of mindful living.

Understanding the concept of healing

“Healing is an art. It takes time. It takes practice. It takes love.” – Maza Dohta

Healing is a holistic and transformative process of recovery in body, mind, and soul resulting in positive change. It may sound silly, but inner healing or mental healing is a process that requires diving deep into your inner self to transform into a healthy flow of energy.

To heal emotionally, you must identify the source of emotional pain, acknowledge that you have the power to change, and practice self-love. The human body has an amazing ability to heal on its own, but sometimes it needs a little help and self-care. Everything slows down as you age. Skin takes longer to heal when the injury occurs. And to speed up the healing process, following a self-care ritual is essential.

However, healing doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time and is a gradual process of physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation. So don’t force yourself to heal. Give yourself time to grow into new ways of looking at yourself. Learning to heal is a slow and difficult process but worthwhile in the long run.

So, how to create your very own ritual of healing? Let us find out together.

  • Set your goal: Let go of your mundane routine. Take the next three months to do things that relax your mind, body, and soul. Find what soothes your body and what pains or calms your anxieties, and practice those things regularly. The rituals that we intentionally perform increases our willpower to meet our goals.

  • Envision your ideal life: Allow yourself to dream and create a picture of the life you want. For example: What does your ideal day look like? What type of person do you want to be? Or what does your physical appearance look like? What you see may amaze you. Keep your vision alive by revisiting it every day, if only for a few minutes.

  • Start small: It can be extremely overwhelming to start your journey of healing in a meaningful way. But fret not! Ask yourself, ‘What is the one small step I can take immediately to move me closer to healing?’ Start with that incredibly small habit and gradually improve, one day and one step at a time.

  • Create space for your ritual: Rituals don't have to be dull or miserable. Remember creating your very own rituals for healing is about doing what’s meaningful to you. For example: light a scented candle to set the vibe for a yoga ritual, create an enjoyable playlist for your gym routine, wash your face or take a spiritual bath to fully relax before starting your routine.

  • Don’t give up: Building your new rituals of healing can seem daunting in the beginning. What’s important is being consistent and accountable. You can add daily reminders in your phone to remember to practice your rituals or treat yourself each time you complete your ritual until it becomes second nature!

While we still have a lot to learn about the mind, body, and soul connection, there’s no doubt that making meaningful and mindful choices is an important part of healing.
